Research of thermal-elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication of main bearings of marine diesel engines based on whole engine block
To predict and optimize lubrication-friction characteristics of the main bearings of marine diesel engine, it is necessary to consider the whole body, temperature and other important factors, which have been neglected. Under the condition of flexible whole engine body, by using the extended Reynolds equation under the boundary condition of mass conservation and the Greenwood/Tripp micro-peak contact theory, the thermal-elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication model of the main bearing under the coupling of the marine diesel engine block and the crankshaft was established by taking into account the influence of temperature on friction lubrication. The results show that on condition of the thermal-elasto-hydrodynamic hybrid lubrication model, the calculation results of the single bearing model are conservative, and the whole body model is more reasonable; while on condition of the whole flexible engine body model, the friction power consumption of EHD+ model is higher than that of TEHD model, which indicates that the influence of temperature on oil film plays an important role in the friction characteristics of the main bearing. In addition, no matter what kind of calculation model, most of the time in the whole cycle is mixed lubrication, but the hydrodynamic friction is dominant. In short, a fully flexible, thermo elastic hydrodynamic hybrid lubrication model considering surface contact and temperature effects is a suitable choice for large marine diesel engines.
