Depending on actual collision case, the paper establishs the three-dimensional simulation model of the entire ship, and the finite element method is used to calculate the process of ship collision dynamics. The ship collision mechanism obtained through the analysis show that it takes little time for the vessel to get damaged since contact-impact, and the breakage process of the shell and skeleton is not synchronized. The local breakage is obvious only with significant impact regional deformation, and zero deformation away from the collision region. Simulation results reproduce actual collision damage process well, which is consistent with the real collision data. This kind of qualitative research on collision from the angle of the hull structure of the ship is more credible than that of any other qualitative research , which can provide an effective method for the study of ship safety and maritime surveys.
