Research on crashworthiness of SPS side structures

Abstract

According to CCS rule of “Guideless” for the Application of Steel Sandwich Panel Construction to Ship Structure”, inner hull and outer plates of tanker are superseded by sandwich plate system. Laminate modeling method is compared with 3D substantiality model analyzation by using nonlinear numerical simulation. Simulation results show that it is effective to adopt laminate modeling method for SPS collision problems on microcomputer, which can meet the requirement of precision for general engineering problem. The crashworthiness of SPS side structures is compared with that of conventional double side structures of tanker, and comparative researches indicate that sandwich plate side structures can provide larger collision force, better energy absorbing capability and much larger crashworthiness index. Therefore, the advantage of crashworthiness by using the SPS side structures of tanker is validated.
