Abstract

A novel electrode system with the assistance of surface sliding preionization was applied to improve the stability of the glow discharge with large aperture. The preionization unit was symmetrically fixed on the plane of cathode surface. A uniform and stable glow discharge was obtained in the mixture of iodide and nitrogen at the specific energy deposition of 4.5 J/L, pressure of 2.8~3.3 kPa, aperture size of 11 cm×10 cm. In theory, the electrode system is applicable in glow discharge with even larger aperture due to its unique preionization structure.
