Discussion about the metacentric height  limit of a loaded semisubmersible vessel

Abstract

To obtain safe and reliable metacentric height (GM) minimum limit, the paper analyzed the GM limit in static water and waves based on vessel stability and stability requirement for deck loading special heavy cargo, and the versatile GM limit formula was got. Taking a loaded semisubmersible vessel for example, the GM limit was calculated by using the proposed formula. Results verify that the GM limit formula is reasonable, which can provide a new method for determining reasonable GM limit for semisubmersible vessel carrying heavy bulk.
