In order to further analyze the failure mechanism of the reed-type valve in a compressor and reveal the influence of viscous effect arising from the oil between the valve and its seat on the movement process of reed valve, the single-degree of the freedom system model of discharge reed valve motion under viscous action was established. The motion characteristic of the valve reed bending with limiter during the working process and effect of viscous force on valve movement were taken into account in the model. The fourth-order Runge-Kutta method was used to program the numerical solution in the MATLAB environment. The displacement measurement experiment of the discharge reed valve was used to verify and test. Results show that 71.9 % data points in the calculated results of the proposed model fall within 10 % error bands. It is concluded that the proposed model can describe the dynamic characteristics of the reed valve more accurately compared with the model without viscous effect. Finally, the influences of kinematical viscosity and stiffness on the valve opening delay and closing process were analyzed with the proposed model. This research can provide a reference for the optimization and reliability design of the reedtype valve.
