Based on the analysis of the influence of small impedance branches on the convergence of power flow calculation, a two-stage iterative rectangular coordinate Newton method was proposed. In the first stage, some elements of Jacobian partitioned matrix were improved to improve the numerical conditions of Jacobian matrix, so that the power flow calculation of small impedance branches can converge reliably. In the second stage, the traditional method was still used to calculate Jacobian matrix to improve power flow calculation convergence rate. The analysis of numerical examples verifies the feasibility of the proposed method, which solves the convergence of power flow of systems with small impedance branches, and enhances the convergence speed of power flow calculation.
